5G NR

Channel Setup CSI-RS

Channel-State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) is used for DL CSI downlink acquisition. It is also used for Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) measurements used during mobility and beam management It is also used for frequency and time tracking, demodulation and UL reciprocity based pre-coding.

CSI-RS is configured specific to UE, however multiple users can share the same resource.

The 5G NR standard allows a high level of flexibility in CSI-RS configurations. A CSI-RS resource may start at any OFDM symbol of the slot and it usually occupies 1, 2, or 4 OFDM symbols depending upon the configured number of ports. It can be periodic, semi-persistent, or aperiodic (this is due to DCI triggering). For time and frequency tracking, CSI-RS can either be periodic or aperiodic. It is transmitted in bursts of two or four symbols which are spread across one or two slots.

This topic describes the following CSI-RS properties:

Resource Allocation

Allocated Slots

Sets the slot indexes allocated for the selected CSI-RS. Allocated Slots are entered as an array of slot indexes allocated for the CSI-RS. 5G NR slot format combination structures are defined in 5G NR 3GPP TS 38.200 series standards.

There are three ways to configure:

Sets the allocated slot index for the channel. Allocated Slots are entered as an array of slot indexes allocated for the PUCCH. There are three ways to configure:

These three configuration methods can be used in combination, by using ',' as the delimiter, e.g. 0,1,4:7,8:2:19 means index 0,1,4,5,6,7,8,10,12,14,16,18.

If the slot allocation is different for different frame, use '{ }' and '|' to specify the frame index, for example, {0|0,1,2},{1|3,4,5} means slot 0,1,2 for frame 0, and slot 3,4,5 for frame 1. Ensure the Number of Radio Frames under Waveform Setup node is large enough.

GUI Location

SCPI Example

RAD:NR5G:WAV:CCAR0:DLIN:CSIR:FDB '11111'

RAD:NR5G:WAV:CCAR0:DLIN:CSIR:FDB?

Couplings

Length couplings:

Row Index: 1

The value is left padded with 0 and the length is clipped to 4

For example, if user input "01", it will be padded to "0001"

If user input "0101011", it will be clipped to "1011"

Row Index: 2

The value is left padded with 0 and the length is clipped to 12

Row Index: 4

The value is left padded with 0 and the length is clipped to 3

Row Index: Other values

The value is left padded with 0 and the length is clipped to 6

Number of ‘1’ couplings (required minimum number of ‘1’s)

Row Index: 7, 8

      Number of ‘1’ needed: 2

Row Index: 10, 13, 14, 15

      Number of ‘1’ needed: 3

Row Index: 6, 11, 12,16, 17,18

      Number of ‘1’ needed: 4

Row Index: 9

      Number of ‘1’ needed: 6

Row Index: other values

      Number of ‘1’ needed: 1

For example, if Row Index is 4, user input "00001011", according to length couplings rule, the value will be clipped to "001011" at first. Then according Number of ‘1’s couplings rule, the Number of ‘1’s needed should be 4. So the value "001011" will automatically adjusted to "001111".
